As part of the national commemoration to mark the centenary of the outbreak of war in 1914, Tadley and District History Society (TADS) researched the lives of the men named on Tadley's war memorial.

The history of Tadley War Memorial

The Project Group decided to focus on a narrow aspect of the war - research the lives of the 31 men listed on Tadley War Memorial. and to hold an exhibition to display their research in September 2014.

There followed the lengthy process of researching the men, piecing together the various strands of their lives, asking for information from families and friends, tracing their birth certificates, details of their service records, how they died and where they are buried or commemorated. Countless meetings where facts were gone over and checked. Illustrations sourced etc.

The work was very satisfying and added to the knowledge of many of the men.

An exhibition on the 31 persons who served in World War I named on Tadley's war memorial was held on 27 September 2014. For information on each of the 31 men, please follow this link:
